Made in Yorkshire Exhibition 2019

Made in Yorkshire Exhibition 2019

Scarlett O'Connor |

This year’s Made in Yorkshire exhibition, held on 23 May, was attended by businesses and entrepreneurs from across the north – and as the organisation’s longest serving member, we were thrilled to take part.

It was a really busy day, both on our stand and around the Century Pavilion at Elland Road in Leeds, where the expo took place. The atmosphere was extremely positive, and it was great to see how many people made it along to support the event. There’s no doubt that Made in Yorkshire is a very positive network to belong to, offering many member benefits.

The PPS stand was manned by Ethan Noble, Ian Colquhoun, Andy Martlew and Kim Martlew, who were asking delegates to share their current issues – whether about compressed air, pneumatics and energy recovery, or business questions that could be answered by other companies exhibiting on the day.

Our Managing Director, Ian Harrison, took part in the 3 Minute Showcase session held in the afternoon. This gave Made in Yorkshire members three minutes each to showcase an innovation from their business, to highlight diverse examples of excellent manufacturing practice within the region.

Ian’s talk focused on PPS People – collaboration with our internal stakeholders for a better customer service. In the presentation he explained how PPS is more than just a compressed air supplier, detailing the turnkey solutions we offer and how the company has put internal systems in place to ensure that customers receive the best service possible.

In particular, he talked about:

  • Our recent relocation to new, state-of-the-art premises in Brighouse
  • Offering staff the opportunity to take a Business Improvement course run by Manufacturing Excellence
  • How we take a flexible, approachable and honest approach to working with both external customers and internal staff
  • Our approach to recruitment, succession planning, apprentices, training and inclusion
  • Winning Employer of the Year at the Halifax Courier Business Awards – three times

The other presenters taking part in the 3 Minute Showcase were:

  • Alex Firnigl – Cirteq
  • Fraser Thomson – CIM Logic
  • Ross Thompson – Hesco
  • Matt Stevens – Portakabin
  • Simon Rehill – Pulsar Instruments
  • Bill Buhler – Rheintacho

Other seminars taking place during the day included talks by Michael Gavin, HO of Supply Chain & Quality for Detail Parts at Airbus, and Jon Hughes, Managing Director of HARIBO UK & Ireland.

All in all, it was a fantastic day and well worth attending. We look forward to future Made in Yorkshire events – and anyone who would like a tour of our new premises or advice on energy savings and our turnkey solutions is welcome to get in contact.
