Situation:
Production at the West Yorkshire based printers was powered by two air compressors. Following a major failure on one of their compressors, they were using a PPS hire compressor to keep production running. With over 145,000 run hours on their old machine, it had served them well but was not worth repairing. PPS were asked to specify a new compressor to match their current and future air demands.
Task:
A data log was carried out to assess the current compressed air demand. However, expansion was on the horizon for the printers and plans were in place for new equipment to be installed. The new compressed air system would need to be able to easily cope with this additional air demand.
The PPS team considered everything from the data log and all the information the print team could provide on the upcoming equipment expansion, to find a total compressed air requirement for the site.
Action:
The assessment of the site led to the specification of an Atlas Copco GA45 VSD+ air compressor, which would fit perfectly for the site demand and mean they could run the full site from one compressor. This was installed over a weekend to avoid any downtime for production. The installation included pipework connections and ducting made to measure by PPS.
